The minister informed about the approval of the contract for the delivery of Gladius unmanned aerial vehicle systems during a conference at the ministry. The contract provides for the delivery of four battery modules for unmanned search and shock systems.

– Drones can carry anti-tank weapons. Several hundred Warmate, Gladius and FlyEye drones will go to the artillery regiments located in eastern Poland. The first machines will be available for the army this year – said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

– We use the experience and observations of what is happening beyond our eastern border – added the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the battery modules of the Gladius unmanned search and attack systems will be used for aerial imagery reconnaissance with the use of FT-5 unmanned aerial vehicles.

The head of the Ministry of National Defense stressed that the Gladius search and attack systems “are ready for an emergency”. – It is also the result of processes that we call interoperability in the North Atlantic Alliance – that is to say the construction of such structures, practices that allow our armed forces to cooperate with the forces allied in a simple and collision-free way – he said.

According to the minister, our armed forces are responsible for Poland’s security. Interoperability is extremely important, but the most important thing is resilience, the fundamental thing is the will to fight. All this happened in Ukraine. Ukraine very courageously resists the Russian invasion and thus receives the support of the free world and the support of the West – noted Błaszczak.

He added that the Polish armed forces must be ready to face the aggressor. – We assume that such an aggression will not happen, because the Polish armed forces will be numerous and equipped with modern equipment, which will scare off the aggressor – said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

The contract between the Armaments Agency and WB Electronics provides for the delivery of four battery modules for Gladius unmanned search and shock systems. The battery-powered module will include launch vehicles, command vehicles, munitions and maintenance vehicles, and a reserve of Gladius unmanned aerial vehicles.

The system includes FT5 unmanned aerial vehicles, which are used for reconnaissance – the image can come from opto-electronic warheads working in the visible and infrared spectrum – and Gladius suicide drones carrying an anti-tank payload. The system will be integrated with the Topaz fire control system used by the Polish army. Unmanned aerial vehicles will be able to transmit data to artillery on targets and correct fire.

This is another contract signed by the Ministry of National Defense with the company WB Electronics from Ożarów Mazowiecki, belonging to the WB Group. Last week, the Department of National Defense signed a contract for additional sets of Warmate ammunition. The gross value of the contract was 50 million PLN. Warmate is a platform that can be used for reconnaissance and suicide drone. Warmate circulating ammunition and FlyEye reconnaissance drones produced by the WB group have been used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for many years.

The purchase of unmanned search and attack systems is one of the programs of the military technical modernization plan, also included in the 2021-35 plan announced in 2019. The Gladius program included therein assumes the purchase of drones capable of fighting more heavily armored targets than the Warmate drones supplied so far.
