News – Portal of the Lubuskie Voivodeship

The steering committee adopted a resolution on the project “MedBrain L – Lubuskie project to support diagnostics and medicine with artificial intelligence systems”.

– This is another element of support for our intelligent specialization in the field of health protection. The investment will support, among other things, oncology, pulmonology and neurology – says Marshal Elżbieta Anna Polak.

– The introduction of artificial intelligence in medicine is often referred to as a technological revolution, but AI is becoming an integral part of the healthcare system, helping doctors when diagnosing or choosing a patient’s treatment method. We want to take this technological and development step here in the region – adds Marcin Jabłoński, member of the voivodeship board.

The Steering Committee for the coordination of ESIF interventions at the Ministry of Health voted unanimously to support the project. This means the green light for the implementation of an innovative and technologically advanced company, which aims to launch diagnostic solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI) in selected hospitals in Lubuskie: Gorzów Provincial Multispecialty Hospital Wielkopolski Sp z oo, the university hospital. K. Marcinkowski at Zielona Góra Sp. Z oo, Lubuskie Pulmonology and Cardiology Specialty Hospital at Torzym Sp. Z oo The value of the project is 9.5 million PLN.

“Lubuskie Medical Brain”

MedBrain L – because it is the name of the system implemented – is a tool supporting and combining the work of doctors and artificial intelligence (AI) in the diagnosis and description of patient examinations. The artificial intelligence algorithms of the Lubuskie solution will find application in three specialties: mammography, pneumology and neurology.

Provincial hospitals in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Zielona Góra are strategic units in the region, holding a majority share in the process of treating and diagnosing patients, therefore they should be equipped with a set of tools that increase their efficiency and allow benefits of artificial intelligence to be extended to as many patients as possible. Torzym Pulmonary and Cardiological Hospital will be involved in the implementation of the pulmonary system, as it provides specialized medical services in the field of lung diseases, which is important in the diagnosis of complications after Covid 19.

“MedBrain L – Lubuskie project to support diagnostics and medicine with artificial intelligence systems” has an expected value of PLN 9.5 million, of which almost PLN 8.1 million will come from EU LRPO funds under of priority axis 2. Digital development, Measure 2.1 Development of information society, sub-measure 2.1.1 Development of information society – projects implemented outside the ITI formula. Beneficiary – The voivodeship provides its own contribution in the amount of PLN 1.4 million. The system is to be part of another large IT project – the Lubuskie Center of Digital Competence and Shared Services.

AI in medicine

The introduction of artificial intelligence in medicine is often referred to as a technological revolution, but with modern technologies, AI is increasingly becoming an integral part of the healthcare system, helping doctors during diagnosis and choice of method. treatment of a patient. Computer tools and algorithms support the diagnostic process by analyzing thousands of images and learning to detect irregularities based on this. Human analysis of medical data can be time-consuming, delaying diagnosis and possible medical intervention. Artificial intelligence analyzes data instantly.

The main purpose of using artificial intelligence in healthcare is primarily to support medical personnel. The algorithms being developed aim to support doctors in their daily activities, helping them to have as much time as possible to care for the patient. A system that scans routine medical data and analyzes risk factors, predicts the possibility of disease as accurately as doctors do. Thanks to this, it is possible to carry out more effective prophylaxis and inform patients in advance about the possibility of a health threat. And it is precisely this collaboration between digital technologies and people – doctors and patients – that is an extremely important step in the development of medicine.
