POCO F4 GT review: a high-performance and well-equipped smartphone with physical triggers designed for gamers

I have to admit that nowadays gaming smartphones are like medicine. Moreover, a large part of them is not available in the official Polish distribution, which is why Polish gamers most often choose the ASUS ROG Phone series. In this category we can also find Black Shark or Nubia, but these devices are difficult to buy “on the spot”. Then … the POCO F4 GT, the latest smartphone from the Xiaomi sub-brand, which is essentially a renamed version of the Redmi K50G, enters our shelves. What is the player’s actual equipment? The core issue is high performance, which is ensured by the flagship chipset and fast UFS 3.1 memory and LPDDR5 RAM. A large screen with high frame rate refresh can also be important. Yes, similar solutions are used in the flagship models, but the POCO F4 GT is cheaper and, above all, has some aggressive stylistic flavors. Up to the point.

Xiaomi has several smaller smartphone brands under it. The most recognizable are, of course, Redmi and POCO. In the case of the latter, we are dealing with a rather interesting story. The company started with inexpensive devices that offered more than a reasonable specification. Of course, judging by the price-performance ratio. POCO’s hardware gave the user “a lot for little” right from the start. Unfortunately, the manufacturer follows the path chosen by the competition and increases the prices of new devices. Well, the costs are rising, so the change should come as no surprise. However, we have associated smartphones with the POCO logo on the case with a small price. So how can you accept a model that costs 2,999 PLN in the basic version? I omit the fact that the option with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of data memory costs 3499 PLN, which is dangerously close to the best phones such as: Samsung Galaxy S22, Apple iPhone 13, Xiaomi 12 or realme GT 2 Pro or Motorola edge 30 Pro.

We checked the POCO F4 GT. A smartphone with physical triggers, quad speakers and an efficient processor sounds like a gamer’s dream, but will it live up to the lofty expectations?

However, we will not compare the POCO F4 GT with iPhones or Samsung. However, it is worth taking a look at it, taking into account direct competitors with similar performance, namely realme GT 2 Pro, Motorola edge 30 Pro and Xiaomi 12. After all, these devices work under the control of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Of course, the POCO F4 GT is not the king of photography and videography, but it can appeal to many people because of its lens. It is a device dedicated to mobile gamers. In addition to the case, which directly encourages playing in demanding game productions, the equipment offers an audio system consisting of four speakers and physical triggers. These increase the attractiveness of the smartphone in the eyes of virtual entertainment enthusiasts. Let’s take a look at the technical specifications.

The POCO F4 GT is equipped with the best Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 memory. The image is displayed on a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 20:9. Of course, we’re dealing with a 120Hz refresh rate here. We’ll take pictures using the main photo set in the configuration of 64 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP and a front selfie camera with a matrix with a resolution of 20 MP. The manufacturer has equipped the smartphone with a 4700 mAh rechargeable battery at 120 W. It’s impressive. The efficient operation of the device is ensured by Android 12 covered with the latest version of the original Xiaomi overlay – MIUI 13. Let’s move on to discussing the individual characteristics of the tested smartphone.
